The Ocean Sewage
What is sewage?. It is water that carries waste in suspension or solution. This water is intended to be removed from a specific community. Sewage also known as waste water includes commercial, sanitary, surface run off, agricultural and industrial.
Sewage treatment is the procedure to remove the contaminants from the waste found in water. The process consists of producing the waste into liquid and solid, which will be more suitable for reuse or discharge to the environment. This type of process is known to be a form of waste management.
Ocean dumping is the illegal disposal of hazardous wastes from air crafts, platforms, ships, boats, etc. Ocean dumping occurs on purpose or by accident. The waste term includes the following: human waste, garbage such as plastic bags and bottles, glass bottles, etc. It is known that most of the ocean sewage from the 90s is still there today. Ocean sewage looks like natural prey to sea animals such as sea birds. Most of the sea birds are being found dead because of the waste found in the ocean.
The state of Florida on 2008 had passed a bill to end ocean sewage treated onto the coral reefs of Southeast Florida. The Miami Dade, Broward and Palm beach county consist of six outfall pipes which discharges millions of gallons of waste near the reefs. Delray beach outfall was the first to shut off the sewage outfall flow.
